College of Marin Child Study Center

Kentfield, CA

SBA led the design of the early education environments through a close collaborative process with both the Directors and staff of the College of Marin Child Development Program and the College of Marin Early Childhood Education Department.

Hired by HKIT Architects, SBA brought together the two distinct needs of each department within a common facility. Beyond the need for security within the children’s spaces, the design carefully considered the opportunities presented by the unique program and the site. Indoor/outdoor relationships supported free movement from the interior to the exterior; a project-based curriculum shaped places for project presentation and documentation; and the wonderful natural site assets served as a focus to the outdoor classroom within a modular prefabricated building framework.
