San Francisco Day School Addition

San Francisco, CA
Completed 2022

The San Francisco Day School first occupied their campus on Masonic Avenue in 1985 with the adaptive reuse and renovation of the historic mission style Carew English Mortuary. The campus was expanded with three major additions in 1987, 1988, and 1993, with two classroom wings and a new multipurpose Gymnasium/Cafeteria/Science Classroom building.

In 2022 a new building for arts and innovation programs was opened on lots adjacent to the school. It features a 250-seat black box theater, two art classrooms, a robotics lab, a maker’s space, a music rehearsal studio, a new colorful sunny play yard, and a 1500 square foot roof top teaching garden. The project also included the renovation of an adjacent historic Victorian residence to provide four units of teacher housing.
